CSCL Chooses Wärtsilä’s Auxpac 32 for Its Boxship Fleet

Eight new 13,500 TEU container vessels being built for China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL) at Chinese Hudong-Zhonghua shipyard are to be powered by 32 Wärtsilä Auxpac 32-generating sets.

The order was placed in March 2016 with Wärtsilä’s joint venture company, CSSC Wärtsilä Engine Co (CWEC).

Wärtsilä says that the total power output from the contracted Wärtsilä engines is to exceed 100 MW. The sets are scheduled for delivery in the first half of 2017.

The Wärtsilä Auxpac 32 engine is a good choice for this application since its design parameters are very much in line with the operational profile needs of the vessels. We are also very pleased to be working with CSCL, a company with whom we have enjoyed a long and successful cooperation,” says Roger Holm, President, Wärtsilä Marine Solutions.

The Wärtsilä Auxpac 32 is the auxiliary engine version of the Wärtsilä 32 family. It is aimed at large container vessels with an auxiliary power need from approximately 2,500 kWe to 4,500 kWe per generating set.

In October 2015, Wärtsilä and China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) signed though their China-based joint venture CSSC Wärtsilä Engine (Shangai) strategic cooperation agreements with the Hudong Zhonghua and Shanhai Waigaoqia (SWS) shipyards to develop ship designs and solutions. CSSC Wärtsilä also signed a Letter of Intent with SWS for the delivery in 2017 of Wärtsilä Auxpac 32 generating sets for three large container ships.
