Denmark - Lloyd's List Ranks Maersk Chiefs as Most Influential in Shipping Industry

Chief Executive Nils Smedegaard Andersen and Eivind Kolding at Danish shipping and oil group A.P. Moller-Maersk, have been ranked as the most influential individuals in shipping according to Lloyd’s List, Reuters reports.

In the shipping newspaper’s annual ranking, the “Lloyd’s List One Hundred”, these two top executives are ahead of Mike Duke, the head of the world’s biggest retailer Wal-Mart Stores Inc and Somali pirate Garaad Mohammed.

Andersen and Kolding left behind China’s minister of transport, Li Shenglin, who was at the top of the list last year. Maersk’s group Chief Executives in pursuing their efforts to turn Maersk into a global brand recognized also outside the industry, were “changing the face of container shipping” in terms of ship size, booking systems and service, Lloyd’s List reported.

Walmart’s Duke was named and Somali pirate Garaad Mohammed number eight among the shipping industry’s most influential people according to Lloyd’s List.
