DNV GL marks 150th anniversary in Amsterdam
DNV GL marks 150 years of DNV and the one year of the DNV GL merger.
DNV GL highlights this milestone primarily by looking ahead by developing six strategic themes for a safe and sustainable future. Four of these will be demonstrated by DNV GL experts: electric power for the future; the future of shipping; adjustments for a changing climate; and the role of gas in the energy transition. In addition, English scientist Gabrielle Walker will explain how global warming can be counteracted, during the anniversary celebration at The Hermitage and The National Maritime Museum in Amsterdam.
A year ago, the Norwegian company Det Norske Veritas (DNV) merged with Germanischer Lloyd (GL) from Germany, forming a new company called DNV GL with 16,000 experts in 100 countries across the globe. DNV GL also owns Dutch KEMA, which was acquired by DNV in 2012. The three companies combined have more than 300 years of experience in certifying, testing and consultancy in shipping, electric power and the oil and gas industry. The business assurance branch certifies practically all industries in the Netherlands for ISO 9001, 14001 and 18001 for sustainable and responsible management.
David Walker, CEO DNV GL-Energy said, “The objective of DNV GL is to safeguard life, property and the environment. By doing so our vision is to have an impact on creating a safer and more sustainable world. Unlimited growth is simply not physically feasible on this planet. Everything in our company is focussed on long-term improvements: our services, company culture, 16,000 experts and our 5% investment in research and innovation. Our strong financial position is crucial to maintaining our independent and leading role as a service provider in technology and risk management and to continuing to have an impact on creating a more sustainable world. Sustainability will also be paramount during our 150th anniversary celebrations in more than 10 cities worldwide, where we will engage in conversations with our clients, the government and other stakeholders about how we can best achieve a sustainable future together.”
Jacob Fontijne, Country Chair DNV GL in the Benelux and Director of the KEMA laboratories said, “In 2050, the world population will require 60% more energy than today. We will all have to work extremely hard to keep the world liveable in the future. Everything DNV GL does contribute to a better and safer living environment, both now and in the future. In this time of economic and political turmoil we call for companies and leaders to do the same and to focus on a more sustainable world. Our six strategic themes and our other research activities demonstrate that this is possible.”
