Dr. Marcus Jones Leaves his Post as CE of IMarEST in Order to Pursue New Interests (UK)

Dr Marcus Jones has left his post as Chief Executive of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) in order to pursue new interests. He joined the Institute in January 2008 as Chief Operating Officer and took over as Chief Executive in May 2009.

Marcus has defined and led the delivery of the Institute’s change management project to reduce costs substantially and achieve year on year income growth,” says Professor Chris Hodge, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Institute. “With the support of the Board, Council, Branches, members and staff, the operating margins have been improved by almost 40% over the last three years. The Institute has significantly improved its financial viability and long term sustainability during his tenure.

“Marcus is pursuing new horizons and has handed over the leadership of the organisation to a new Chief Executive to lead the Institute through its next phase of accelerated growth. The work of recruiting that new Chief Executive now begins; in the meantime the Institute is in the safe hands of two senior directors, with the Board of Trustees, under my Chairmanship, taking an active role.

Chris Hodge adds: “Marcus would like to thank the Board, Council and members for their support and especially thank the senior management team and staff for their support, extensive efforts and sacrifices. He believes they are the most precious assets of the Institute and deserve all the credit for the Institute’s achievements. He wishes all many more successes in the future.”

With a significant headquarters move afoot later in the year, the IMarEST is well set for the future and the next phase in its 122 year life. The current headquarters in Coleman Street and Moorgate are in the process of being sold. Once this has been achieved IMarEST will move to a more suitable sized and structured office and meeting space in Aldgate; and release funds which, when invested, will enable the Institute to deliver even better services to its worldwide membership.

Our new Chief Executive will join us at an exciting time when we put vision into action and move forward, in every sense of the word, to serve our growing membership in a way truly suited to the 21st century,” says Chris Hodge. “We look forward to rising to the challenges of the digital age, and ensuring that we constantly surpass the expectations of our members of all ages, in all parts of the world.
