DSME Strikes Again

South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) has won orders for three container ships with a total value of USD 466.4 million from an unnamed European shipowner, the company said in a Korea Exchange filing.

The announcement comes one day after the company sealed the deal to build two LNG carriers priced at USD 408 million, again not revealing the identity of their European client.

The expected delivery date for the container ships is February 15, 2017. Although DSME did not disclose any particulars on the vessels, based on a USD 155.5 million price tag per container ship, it can be expected that they fall into category of ultra-large container ships.

With the last two orders, DSME’s sales in the last fiscal year stand at USD 14.47 billion.
