E.ON Inaugurates Cycle Gas Turbine Plant in Slovakia

Today E.ON inaugurated the modern combined cycle gas turbine plant at Malženice in Slovakia with a capacity of 436 megawatts.

The plant, representing an investment of 400 million Euros, marks a key milestone in Slovakian power generation as it has an efficiency of more than 59 percent. Due to its great flexibility it is making a substantial contribution to compensating for the fluctuating production of electricity from renewable energies, thereby keeping the power grid stabile.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Slovakian Minister of Economy Juraj Miškov, Minister of Environment Jozsef Nagy and Jørgen Kildahl, the Member of the Board of E.ON AG responsible for the global generation business.

“The new Malženice power station is our biggest single investment in Slovakia so far. With its high efficiency it contributes to making the country’s power generation even more climate- and environmentally-friendly. CO2 emissions for instance are about 25 percent lower than at existing plants in Slovakia. Thus the new power station is also an outstanding example of putting our Cleaner & Better strategy into practice”, Kildahl explained to some 200 guests.

E.ON has been operating in Slovakia since nine years. It has a shareholding in the ZSE Group, whose market share of 34 percent makes it one of the leading energy providers in the country. ZSE supplies about eight billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year to industrial and wholesale customers as well as private and trade customers in western Slovakia.
