Ecochlor to Supply BWTS for Up to 30 Minerva Vessels
Boston-headquartered provider of ballast water treatment (BWT) solutions Ecochlor has signed a deal with Greek shipping company Minerva Marine for the potential supply of BWT systems for up to 30 vessels under its management.
The Ecochlor technology was selected for retrofit in Minerva’s managed bulkers and tankers varying in size from medium-range tankers (MRs) to very large crude carriers (VLCCs).
The systems would be installed in accordance with the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the United States Coast Guard (USCG) implementation plan, according to Ecochlor.
The agreement between the duo comes after Ecochor filed an application with the USCG on March 31 for Type Approval for its ballast water treatment system (BWTS).
“Our company is committed to compliance with both USCG and IMO ballast water treatment regulations and we anticipate Ecochlor will receive USCG Type Approval,” Stavros Daniolos, Technical Manager, and Vayia Hatziyianni, Project Team Leader, Minerva Representatives, commented.
“The USCG review of our application is underway. We expect a smooth and timely approval of our application by the USCG within the next 60 days,” Ecochlor told World Maritime News last week.
