EGS Completes Submarine Cable System Between Seychelles and Tanzania

Alcatel-Lucent Submarine Networks awarded EGS the landing site visits, inshore survey and offshore geophysical survey of the Seychelles East African Submarine cable system linking Port Victoria in the Seychelles to Dar es Salam in Tanzania .

The SEAS system is the first fiber optic telecommunication cable linking the Seychelles with the rest of the world.

EGS carried out the landing site visits at both ends of the cable in January 2011 to validate the sites and followed with inshore surveys in early February 2011. EGS’s dedicated deepwater survey vessel, the RV EGS Explorer , arrived in Port Victoria in mid-February to carry out the 2,000km long cable route survey between the Seychelles and Tanzania . The RV EGS Explorer is equipped with state of the art survey equipment to ensure that high resolution data is acquired in order to minimize any risks duration installation of the subsea plant or during its 25 years lifetime. A full armed security team was mobilized onboard the research vessel to protect the crew from potential pirate attacks. The survey was successfully completed by the end of February 2011.
