Egypt looking at new LNG import deals with Total and Shell

Following recent LNG import deals firmed up by Egypt, the country expects to sign further deals with Shell and Total, according to the country’s Minister of Petroleum, Sherif Ismail.

Ismail told Reuters that Egypt is also close to paying more for the gas BG Group produces offshore. He said that Shell and Total could deliver shipments of liquefied natural gas to Egypt for two years starting from now on. No contract details were revealed, but it is expected that Egypt could launch a new tender or start direct negotiations with the two companies.

Ismail added that deals with Gazprom and BP are in the closing stages and the deal for 21 cargoes of LNG with BP should be finalized by the end of the month, about the same time Höegh LNG’s FSRU Höegh Gallant should be set up and receive its first cargo.
