EMO Monitoring System for Cape Sharp Tidal Project

EMO Marine Technologies of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia has been awarded a contract with Open Hydro for the Cape Sharp Tidal project.
OpenHydro, a DCNS company, has partnered with Emera to create the Cape Sharp Tidal project.
The Cape Sharp Tidal project will deploy a fully connected 4MW tidal array of interconnected tidal turbines, providing energy to more than 1,000 customers in Nova Scotia.
The project is expected to have several phases of growth to include generating 16MW of energy in 2017, 50 MW in 2019, with the final phase goal of generating up to 300MW of energy to 75,000 customers in 2020.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to be partners in a project of this magnitude. The fact that is located in our own backyard makes it that much more exciting,” Andrew Palmer, EMO Marine Technologies’ technical sales manager.
EMO Marine Technologies has designed and developed a turnkey monitoring system for the turbine deployment and recovery platform. The monitoring system converts multiple underwater video and sensor data streams into a single fibre-optic cable. This creates a real-time and high bandwidth link from the subsea platform to the ‘Scotia Tide’ deployment barge at the surface.
The EMO MUX system allows for constant monitoring and is intended to assist with both deployment and recovery scenarios.
