Energinet.dk, National Grid Seek Contractor for Viking Link UXO Survey

Energinet.dk and National Grid Viking Link (NGVL) have invited tenders for the survey and inspection of unexploded ordnance (UXO) on the Viking Link route.

Viking Link is a proposed 1400 MW high voltage direct current (HVDC) electricity link between UK and Denmark that will involve the construction of a converter station in each country and the installation of submarine and underground cables between each converter station.

The aim of the UXO survey is to reduce the risk on the Viking Link HVDC cable route in the North Sea to as low as reasonably practicable, the company said.

The duration of the project is expected to be 28 months.

According to Energinet.dk, the deadline for the submission of tenders is September 22, 2017.

Viking Link will be approximately 760 km long with the offshore part of approximately 630km of submarine high voltage Director Current (DC) cables.
