EUR 7 Mln Available for Ocean Energy Innovation

The first OCEANERA-NET Joint Call 2014 for RTDI proposals is now open. The Joint Call is worth €7 million and is purposed for research and development of innovative solutions in wave energy, tidal energy, tidal and ocean currents, salinity gradient and ocean thermal energy conversion.

The aim of OCEANERA-NET is to promote research and innovation and to enhance access to transnational value chains, towards the development and competitiveness of ocean energy technologies.

A total amount of around €7 million has been committed for this Joint Call by ten Funding Organisations from the following European countries and regions: Asturias (Spain), Basque Country (Spain), Flanders (Belgium), France, Ireland, Portugal, Scotland (United Kingdom), Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.

Each participating Funding Organization will finance the beneficiaries located in their respective country/region following national/regional rules, as described in Annex II of Guidelines for Applicants.

The call scope is focused on needs-driven research towards the design, development, demonstration and validation of ocean energy technologies and solutions addressing: Wave Energy, Tidal Energy, Tidal and Ocean Currents, Salinity Gradient and Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion.

Projects are expected to be highly innovative improving the performance, efficiency, survivability and reliability of components, systems, devices or arrays in their whole life cycle, while reducing costs and environmental impacts.

A two-stage procedure will be applied for the submission and evaluation of proposals, consisting of a first pre-proposal stage (for eligibility check) and a second full proposal stage (entailing both eligibility check and international evaluation by independent experts).
