Expro Celebrates 40th Anniversary at Brasil Offshore International Conference
Leading international oilfield services company, Expro, is celebrating its 40th anniversary at this year’s Brasil Offshore International Conference in Macaé, by showcasing its investment in a range of new technology.
Expro will exhibit the new high pressure/high temperature (HP/HT) Drill Stem Testing (DST) BigCat™ packer, which provides a high strength, single-trip retrievable alternative to seal-bore packers in HP/HT well tests.
Also on show is Expro’s ExACT tool, a fully annulus-operated combined multi-cycle circulating and downhole shut-in ball valve. The most advanced tool of its kind, ExACT combines downhole shut-in and circulating functionality. Rated at 15K psi and temperatures of up to 450°F, ExACT features minimal fast-cycling to position the ball and ports in the required position.
Expro’s enhanced DST capabilities provide technology and specialist data services from reservoir to disposal, to provide an integrated well test solutions package across the exploration and appraisal (E&A) phase of the well.
In addition to its new products, Expro will feature some of its most recent market-leading Advanced Reservoir Testing (ART) services using the Cableless Telemetry System (CaTS™).
CaTS is a revolutionary development in the field of reservoir monitoring and control, which can be retrofitted into existing wells and transmits high quality pressure and temperature data to surface in real-time using the well’s casing as a conduit for the signal to transfer along.
ART is a special application of CaTS that enables permanently abandoned E&A wells, zones or pilot holes to be cost effectively converted into long-term, high value monitoring assets. The CaTS data is proving of value in reducing uncertainties in reservoir connectivity and identifying any far boundaries. Using an electromagnetic signal, CaTS is not influenced by cemented pipe, cement plugs or bridge plugs meaning that the well can be permanently abandoned with no further well intervention required.
Expro continues to grow within the Brazil and wider Latin America region, particularly following the recent offshore acreage awards in May 2013, in which 142 blocks were awarded. Expro has also recently secured partnerships with two of the successful operators in that area – Petra and Total.
In April, the company secured a one-year contract worth $2m with Petra to provide well-testing and flowback in the San Francisco Basin. Work is also due to commence in September on a $1.6m bid won with Total in Brazil to provide subsea landing string services to the Xelerete field, located around 250km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro.
Jean Moritz, Expro’s Region Director for Latin America, comments:
“Expro is committed to growing the business within Brazil and the wider Latin America region, which is demonstrated through our recent contract wins, combined with the launch of our new ExACT tool range that was recently deployed in Brazil for field trials.
“The offshore acreage awards provide us with an exciting opportunity to develop our relationship with existing customers, and identify further potential opportunities within this key period of growth for the country. Brazil Offshore is an excellent opportunity to showcase our new technology, combined with our existing range of market-leading products and services.
“Expro’s 40th anniversary is a huge success and testament to the continued expertise and commitment from over 5,000 employees across the world. With a firm focus on safety and quality, we continue to enhance our portfolio and position as a global provider of well flow management solutions.”
