ExxonMobil president Walters steps down after 38 years

U.S. oil giant ExxonMobil has named Neil Duffin as the new President of ExxonMobil Production Company. He will succeed a retiring Tom Walters who will be leaving the company after more than 38 years of service.

ExxonMobil said on Friday that Neil Duffin, currently president of ExxonMobil Development, was appointed as the President of ExxonMobil Production and elected to be a vice president of the corporation.

Also, Liam Mallon, currently executive vice president of ExxonMobil Development Company, has been elected to replace Duffin as president.

The oil major said that all changes would be effective as of January 1, 2017.

Walters joined Exxon USA in 1978 and had held a variety of technical and managerial positions in production, operations, development and global services. In 1999, he was appointed vice president for Africa for ExxonMobil Development Company and in 2002, vice president for ExxonMobil Production Company USA.

He was appointed the president of ExxonMobil Global Services Company in 2005 before becoming executive vice president of ExxonMobil Development Company in 2007. He became president of ExxonMobil Gas & Power Marketing Company in 2009 and was appointed to his current role as president of ExxonMobil Production Company in 2013.

Duffin joined Mobil in 1979. In 1992 he was named producing advisor for Europe and Africa based in Fairfax, Virginia. In 1995, he moved to Aberdeen, Scotland, as manager of operations for the northern North Sea, and in 1998 he was named senior vice president of Mobil Oil Indonesia with responsibility for exploration and producing operations throughout the country.

Duffin became vice president, ExxonMobil Development Company for Russia/Caspian Sea and the Middle East in 1999 and the vice president of ExxonMobil Production Company for Africa in 2004. He became executive vice president of ExxonMobil Development Company in 2006 and was elected as president of ExxonMobil Development Company in 2007.

Mallon joined Mobil in 1990 and held several progressively senior positions before becoming operations manager in Nigeria in 1998. He moved to Australia in the same capacity in 2000, and in 2003 relocated to Houston where he was planning manager for ExxonMobil Production Company.

In 2004, Mallon was appointed the president of ExxonMobil Canada, and in 2006 he was appointed the director and chairman of ExxonMobil subsidiaries in Malaysia. He was made vice president of engineering for ExxonMobil Production Company in 2009 and vice president for Africa in 2012. He was appointed to his current position as executive vice president of ExxonMobil Development Company in 2014.
