FERC issues EIS for NextDecade's Rio Grande LNG

NextDecade Corporation said it has been granted a Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) draft environmental impact statement (EIS) for its Rio Grande LNG project in South Texas.

The draft EIS also covers the associated Rio Bravo Pipeline to originate in the Agua Dulce area, the company said in a statement.

Speaking of the EIS issuance, NextDecade’s president and CEO Matt Schatzman said, “This milestone brings us one step closer to achieving a final investment decision on the Rio Grande LNG project.”

According to the notice of schedule FERC published in August 2018, FERC will issue a final EIS on April 26, 2019. NextDecade anticipates a final investment decision on the project in the third quarter of 2019.

The Rio Grande LNG project is planned to have a 27 mtpa production capacity at peak. it will be fed by a 4.5 Bcf/d Rio Bravo pipeline that would deliver natural gas from the Agua Dulce area to the terminal in Brownsville.
