Finnlines Takes Two

Finnish shipping company Finnlines has agreed to purchase two ro/ro vessels for its North Sea liner services.

The vessels will join the Finnlines’ fleet at the end of the year. Finnlines did not disclose the name of the seller or the purchase price.

The purchased vessels might be seen as substitutes for MS Finnhansa and MS Finnsailor which were recently sold, leading to a number of the company’s employees losing their jobs.

Finnlines justified the sale by stating that the predominant overcapacity and the latest sulphur directive made the ships’ lines unprofitable.
