Fire aboard APL Containership Damages Six Boxes

Half a dozen containers have been damaged in a fire aboard the 10,106 TEU containership APL Le Havre off the coast of Gujarat, India.

According to media reports, citing the Indian Coast Guard, the fire broke out in the ship’s aft section near the accommodation block.

The incident occurred in the evening hours of August 9. At the time, the the 2012-built boxship was some 40 miles south-west of Porbandar Coast, Gujarat, sailing from Karachi to Mumbai.

Once the fire was under control, the containership was escorted to Mundra port where it remains at anchor, AIS data provided by MarineTraffic shows.

Relevant authorities are looking into the incident and assessing the damage.

There have been no reports of injuries to the 26 crew members aboard APL Le Havre.
