Fire breaks out at Trinidad’s Point Fortin LNG export plant

A fire reportedly broke out at Atlantic LNG’s liquefaction facility in Point Fortin – Trinidad and Tobago’s only LNG export plant – on Tuesday, prompting a precautionary evacuation.

Several local media have reported citing Atlantic LNG’s statement that the fire occurred at around 2:15 pm local time at one of the power generation units.

According to the reports, the fire was quickly extinguished and there were no injuries. Technical teams conducted checks of the facility and all the workers returned to work.

The reports also suggest that LNG production was not interrupted during the incident.

Last month, there was also a precautionary evacuation at the 14.8 mtpa export facility following a leak at one of its liquefaction units.

Atlantic produces LNG from natural gas delivered from offshore fields north and east of Trinidad owned and operated by affiliates of the company’s members and others.

The LNG producing company is owned by BP, Shell, China’s sovereign wealth fund CIC unit Summer Soca and Trinidad’s state-owned company NGC.
