FluxSwiss, GRTgaz to Create Reverse Flow Capacity from Italy to France

FluxSwiss and GRTgaz launch a binding open season following positive market response to the project for creating reverse flow capacity from Italy to France through Switzerland. The project presents the community of shippers with the opportunity to benefit from a bi-directional link between the Italian and French markets and gas trading places.

Open season: two-tier process

Currently, firm capacities between the French-Swiss and Swiss-Italian borders in the GRTgaz and Transitgas systems are only offered in the direction from France to Italy. The open season to create capacities in reverse flow from Italy to France has two separate but parallel and interdependent binding phases:

  • The binding phase of the GRTgaz open season to allocate entry capacity into France, with allocation of entry capacity into France being conditional upon acquisition of corresponding transit capacity in Switzerland.
  • The binding phase of the FluxSwiss open season to allocate firm transit capacity in Switzerland.

GRTgaz open season from 5 June until 21 September

GRTgaz proposes to make available 365,000 m³ (n)/h or 100 GWh/d new entry capacity from Switzerland into France at the Oltingue interconnection point. During this binding phase of the GRTgaz open season, prospective system users are invited to express bona fide interest in the project by 21 September 2012.

FluxSwiss open season: September

During the binding phase of the FluxSwiss open season in September, FluxSwiss will make available firm reverse flow capacity from the Italian-Swiss border to Oltingue so as to arrive at a coordinated capacity offer with GRTgaz. The process will take into account the reverse flow capacities which already have been booked during the 2010 open season.
