Fugro to Start Second Phase of Rampion Cable Laying

Fugro is set to begin ‘phase two’ of cable laying operations at the Rampion offshore wind farm, following a winter break.

In August, Fugro started cable laying operations at the Rampion site, off the UK’s Sussex coast, from its subsea construction vessel, the Fugro Symphony.

The vessel loaded and transported around 75 kilometres of cable on its 2000t carousel from the manufacturer’s facility in Hartlepool to the Rampion site.

The installation of 60 cables was completed at the end of October – three more than the 57 cables originally planned.

Sister vessel Fugro Saltire completed cable burial in November using Fugro’s Q1400 subsea trenching system.

According to Rampion Offshore Wind weekly notice of operations, Fugro Symphony will return to the site on April 7, 2017 to install the remaining 62 cables in phase two. Completion is expected by summer 2017.
