Gas leak forces Pemex to evacuate workers from offshore platform

Mexico’s national oil company Pemex on Tuesday night evacuated 85 workers from one of its offshore platforms following a gas leak.

The company said on Twitter that there were no injuries or fire on the Sihil A platform, in the Campeche Bay.

Pemex said Wednesday that the gas leak was under control.

The year so far has been plagued by accidents for the Mexican oil giant.

It all started in April, when Pemex’s Abkatun Alpha platform exploded killing at least four workers.

In May, two workers died and diesel was spilled into the ocean in a rig tilting incident in the Campeche Bay. In June, the Akal-H platform exploded after a gas leak.
