The facility located in the Dutch port of Rotterdam recorded a throughput of  7.15 million tonnes during the year, 36.6 percent up when compared to the corresponding period in 2018 when the facility’s throughput reached 5.23 million tonnes.

The increase in LNG throughput was mainly due to the import of a greater proportion of the gas produced around the Atlantic ocean into Europe, instead of being exported to Asia.

The port noted that the deliveries of liquefied natural gas to the terminal jumped 83.1 percent reaching 6.52 million tonnes, up from 3.56 million tonnes in the previous year. Loadings and exports from the facility dropped during the period reaching 632,000 tonnes, down 62.2 percent from 1.67 million tonnes loaded in 2018.

Gate terminal, owned by Gasunie and Vopak, is one of Europe’s largest LNG terminals. It consists of three 180,000-cbm storage tanks and has an annual regasification capacity of 12 Bcm – equal to around 180 cargoes per year.
