General Dynamics NASSCO Wins USS Makin Island Repair Contract

General Dynamics National Steel and Shipbuilding Co., San Diego, Calif., is being awarded a $9,051,101 modification to previously awarded cost-plus award fee contract (N00024-07-C-4013) for the removal and installation of gas turbine exhaust ducts as part of the USS Makin Island (LHD 8) fiscal 2012 phased maintenance availability.

A phased maintenance availability includes the planning and execution of depot-level maintenance, alterations, and modifications that will update and improve the ship’s military and technical capabilities. Work will be performed in San Diego, Calif., and is expected to be completed by May 2013.

Fiscal 2013 Operations and Maintenance, Navy funding in the amount of $9,051,101 will be obligated at time of award and will expire at the end of the current fiscal year. The Southwest Regional Maintenance Center, San Diego, Calif., is the contracting activity.
