Dubai Chamber Readies Trade Mission for SMM 2012

The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry finalised its preparations for the outgoing trade mission to Hamburg to participate in the 25th edition of the Shipbuilding, Machinery and Marine Technology (SMM 2012 Expo) which will be held in the strategic Germany city from September 4 to 7.

The pre-mission briefing session, which was held at the Chamber premises on Wednesday, was presided over by H.E. Hisham Al Shirawi, 2nd Vice Chairman, Dubai Chamber, who will be leading the delegation, consisting of 10 Dubai-based business leaders and company officials from the maritime sector.

In his welcome address, Al Shirawi informed that the purpose of the pre-mission briefing session was to give the participants an overview of the trade mission, outline its aims and objectives, identify priorities and to highlight the areas of opportunities for joint cooperation with German companies during the Shipbuilding, Machinery and Marine Technology exhibition which attracts more than 2,000 exhibitors and over 50,000 visitors as its attendance is vital for keeping ahead of the latest sector innovations and trends.

He said the main purpose behind the trade mission was to help Dubai companies build bridges of cooperation with international maritime business leaders and to help establish contacts in shipbuilding, machinery and marine technology while also to promote Dubai’s maritime industry and its strategic location to a global audience.

Al Shirawi added that the visit is also scheduled to have meetings with top officials and representatives of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, Hamburg Port Authority, Ministry of Economics, Transport and Innovation, Blohm&Voss, and Hamburg Maritime Cluster which offer extensive scope for cooperation in this important sector for Dubai businesses.

He called upon the participants to benefit from this trade mission through networking and establishing partnerships with German companies as they are global leaders in the maritime industry. Al Shirawi also urged the delegates to expand their own business interests during the visit as well as promote Dubai’s reputation for adopting latest technological applications of environmentally friendly initiatives in the maritime sector.

The 2nd Vice Chairman of Dubai Chamber wished the trade mission all the success expressing his optimism about the outcome of the mission which he said will have positive results, joint cooperation agreements, and will bring about a new era of stronger economic relations between the two strategic maritime cities.

In his presentation, Hassan Al Hashemi, Director, External Relations, Dubai Chamber, gave a detailed account of the visit stringed with the itinerary and important business networking meetings with German officials as well as the seminars and workshops to be held on the side lines of the exhibition.

The participating companies in the trade mission are Drydocks World and Maritime World, DP World, Economic Zones World, Dubai Shipbuilding & Engineering LLC, Conares Metal Supply, Elcome International LLC, and Hamburg Representative Office in Dubai.
