Germany: North Rhine-Westphalia Leader in Offshore Wind Energy, Says WAB

North Rhine-Westphalia Leader in Offshore Wind Energy, says WAB

North Rhine-Westphalia is leading the way in Germany when it comes to sales and employment in offshore wind energy. Offshore industry network WAB pointed this out at the “5th Wind Energy NRW Industry Day”.

With a share of around 23% of sales in German sales, North Rhine-Westphalia is in front of other German states.

“The most populous state is a traditionally strong industrial base and home to a variety of suppliers for the offshore wind energy industry,” says Ronny Meyer, CEO of Wind Energy Agency WAB.

The soaring production requirements for components lead to more than 2,500 employees in the offshore supply industry alone in North Rhine-Westphalia. Nationwide, more than 14,000 employees worked in the German offshore wind industry in 2010. “The example of North Rhine-Westphalia shows that coastal locations benefit from the development of offshore wind energy in the North Sea and Baltic Seas,” Meyer concluded.
