Halul Island, Ras Laffan to Be Linked by Subsea Cable (Qatar)

Halul Island is set to receive a maximum of 200 megawatts electricity from Ras Laffan through a subsea cable project which will cost more than QR1.6bn, Gulf Times reports.

The cable project will consist of two subsea cables of 100 MW each, which will link Halul, situated 100km northeast of Doha, with Ras Laffan.

Halul will initially use 100MW, and the other 100MW will be on standby.

“Energisation of the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2015 and the full-fledged operation by 2016,” Abdulla Mesfer al-Marri, an official of offshore engineering was quoted as saying.

He added that South Korea’s LS Cable and System will install 200km of 132 kV high voltage power cable to connect Ras Laffan Industrial City to Halul Island.
