Heerema, AF Gruppen firm up Dunlin job with Fairfield

AF Gruppen has, in a consortium with Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC), signed a contract with Fairfield for the removal and disposal of the Dunlin Alpha topside on the UK continental shelf.

A letter of intent to enter into the contract for the removal and disposal of the Dunlin Alpha topside was announced on September 18, 2018, with plans to sign the contract in 4Q 2018.

AF Gruppen announced the signing of the contract on Thursday, December 27. The company said that the contract includes engineering, preparation, removal & disposal (EPRD) of the Dunlin Alpha topside with a total tonnage of approx. 20,000 tonnes.

The engineering will start immediately and the platform is to be removed and disposed in the period between 2021 – 2024.

The platform, located nearly 200 km north-east of the Shetland Isles, was used to process production from the main Dunlin field and the Osprey and Merlin subsea fields tied back to the platform.

Fairfield became the operator of the Dunlin area in 2008. After establishing it was no longer viable to continue production from the Greater Dunlin Area, the decision to terminate production was announced in June 2015. Cessation of Production (COP) was agreed with the OGA in July that same year. The operator then entered the decommissioning phase of the project.
