Siemens AG has awarded Heerema Fabrication Group (HFG) a Procurement & Construction contract for the Offshore Transformer Module (OTM) which will be installed at EnBW’s Albatros offshore wind farm.

Koos-Jan van Brouwershaven, CEO of Heerema Fabrication Group, said: “Together with Siemens we will go to any lengths to make this project a success and lay the foundation for many similar projects. This project, together with our recently booked Peregrino project for Statoil, brings us closer to our 25% capacity strategy for 2018 and beyond.”

The Albatros offshore wind farm is located 105km off German North Sea coast, in close proximity of the EnBW Hohe See wind farm. Albatros will feature 16 Siemens Gamesa 7MW wind turbines.

Construction of the 1000-tonne OTM is due to start in the first quarter of 2018 at the Heerema yard in Zwijndrecht, the Netherlands, and is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2019.

The OTM, with a transmission capacity of 116 MW, is one of the main components of the wind farm’s offshore grid connection.
