HHI, GE advance cooperation on COGES package for LNG carriers and containerships

Hyundai Heavy Industries and General Electric signed a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in developing the combined gas turbine electric and steam (COGES) package for LNG carriers and containerships.

The two companies discussed the technical development progress and the economic feasibility of the project, according to the HHI statement issued on Thursday.

South Korea’s shipbuilding behemoth HHI and US giant GE have also struck a deal to expand the cooperation to areas such as industrial plants, marine engine, ship equipment and medical robot businesses.

In July 2015, Lloyd’s Register granted approval in principle for the duo’s COGES powered 173,000 cbm LNG carrier.
