Subsea 7’s pipelay vessel ‘Seven Waves’ is returning to the yard in the Netherlands for repairs after a fire on its lay assembly.

The vessel was hired by Petrobras on a five-year charter to develop deep-sea oil fields off the coast of Brazil.

Search operations for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 have revealed another shipwreck following Fugro Equator’s discovery in May last year.

According to ATSB report, on December 19, 2015, an anomalous sonar contact was identified in the course of the underwater search, with analysis suggesting the object was likely to be man-made, probably a shipwreck.

The Dutch specialist in lifting, drilling, and subsea solutions, Huisman, has completed the installation of 650mt pipelay system onboard the vessel Skandi Açu.

The Skandi Açu is a 13200 dwt pipe lay support vessel (PLSV) of a VARD 3 05 design. The equipment setup work was done at the Huisman Schiedam facility.

While undertaking seabed scanning for the development of wind farm projects in the East Anglia Zone, ScottishPower Renewables (SPR) and Vattenfall uncovered an ‘uncharted’ wreck of a WWI German submarine, missing in action since 1915.

SPR and Vattenfall used sonar technology to scan over 6,000 km2 of the seabed in the Southern North Sea over two years. Although more than 60 wrecks were discovered during the scanning work, most of these were anticipated, but the uncharted submarine 90 km from shore was entirely unexpected, SPR wrote.

Wood Group has secured a three-year contract with Shell Australia’s Prelude, Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) project.

Perth-based Wood Group Kenny will provide specialist consultancy services for flexible riser integrity management prior to and during operation of Prelude FLNG, which will be located 475km north-north east of Broome in Western Australia.
