Höegh Osaka Heads for Falmouth

Car carrier Höegh Osaka that was stranded in the Solent for 19 days set sail on Tuesday for Falmouth where it will undergo final repair.

According to the latest vessel tracking data from Marine Traffic, Osaka was around three nautical miles from Falmouth, sailing on its own power.

The repair is expected to take up to three weeks enabling the car carrier to return to regular service.

The vessel’s owner Höegh Autoliners said that all units had been discharged and the vessel was empty of cargo. The cargo in question included more than 1,400 Land Rovers, Minis and Jaguars, worth millions of dollars.

The cleaning of decks and accommodation areas has been completed in Southampton.

Grounded car carrier Hoegh Osaka was handed back to its owner on January 23rd after 19 days of salvage activities that saw the vessel finally towed to the Port of Southampton on January 22nd.

The UK’s Marine Accident Investigation Branch has launched investigation into the incident.
