Holland America Line’s New Pinnacle Class Ship Launched in Italy

Nieuw Statendam, Holland America Line’s newest cruise ship, was launched at Fincantieri’ Marghera shipyard in Italy on December 6.

The fitting-out phase can now begin, ending in autumn 2018 with the handing over of the ship, Fincantieri said.

The event was introduced by the coin ceremony, consisting of welding a silver dollar on the last deck of the ship.

Nieuw Statendam is the sixteenth ship built by Fincantieri for Holland America Line and the second Pinnacle class ship after Koningsdam, which was delivered to the cruise line in March 2016.

The newbuilding has a gross tonnage of about 99,500 tons and is almost 300 meters long. It can accommodate up to 2,660 passengers on board in more than 1,300 cabins.

In March this year, Fincantieri held the keel laying ceremony for Nieuw Statendam.

Carnival Corporation, a parent company of Holland America Line, has 19 new ships on order which are scheduled to be delivered between 2017 and 2022.

Fincantieri has 34 vessels currently being designed or built in the group’s yards.
