Hong Kong Seaborne Cargo Stats Mostly Flat

Hong Kong’s total seaborne port cargo throughput in the fourth quarter of 2014 recorded virtually no change at 47.9 million tonnes compared with the fourth quarter of 2013, according to the statistics on vessels, port cargo and containers issued by the region’s Census and Statistics Department (C&SD).   

For 2014 as a whole, seaborne port cargo increased by 7% year-on-year, to 197.3 million tonnes.

Seaborne laden containers decreased by 12% in the fourth quarter of 2014 compared with a year earlier to 3.3 million TEUs. For the whole year, seaborne laden containers decreased by 3% compared with 2013 to 13.9 million TEUs.

Comparing the fourth quarter of 2014 with the fourth quarter of 2013, the number of ocean vessel arrivals recorded virtually no change at 7,690, with the total capacity decreasing by 3% to 103 million net registered tons.

The number of ocean vessel arrivals for the entire year increased by 1% to 30,180, with the total capacity decreasing by 2% to 404.7 million net registered tons.
