HPH to Operate Container Terminal at New Stockholm Norvik Port

Hutchinson Port Holdings (HPH) is to operate the container terminal at the new Stockholm Norvik Port to be built north of Nynäshamn, Sweden.

The final permit to begin the construction of the port was obtained on April 27 this year, after the Swedish Supreme Court issued a positive ruling.

“We are planning for operations to start in 2019/2020,” François Bello, Managing Director of Hutchison Ports Swedensaid.

HPH already operates the existing Container Terminal Frihamnen (CTF) at Frihamnen, Stockholm.

“We value our collaboration with HPH very highly and this is a strong contributor to the positive and strong growth at the container Terminal at Frihamnen, where volumes are up twelve percent over the first five months of this year,” Henrik Widerståhl, Deputy Managing Director and Head of Marketing at Ports of Stockholm, said.

Nine out ten goods arrive in Sweden by sea from other countries, with many of them destined for the Stockholm region. This underlines the importance of modern and adequate terminal facilities. The new port will make it possible to transport goods as close to their final destination as possible by sea, moving them away from Sweden’s congested roads and railways, according to Ports of Stockholm’s Authority.
