Neste Oil jumps to 29th place among the world’s ‘hottest’ bioenergy companies

Neste Oil has improved its ranking in the latest, 2010-2011 listing of the world’s ‘hottest’ bioenergy companies produced by Biofuels Digest – to 29th place compared to 40th place a year ago.

In its release on the updated list, Biofuels Digest describes Neste Oil’s progress, moving up 11 places in the space of one year, as one of the most positive seen recently. Codexis, an American producer of renewable biofuels and chemicals, recorded an even bigger improvement, rising from 26th place last year to 9th place this year. Another American company, Amyris, tops the new list.

“Being ranked so high in a list of the world’s bioenergy players reflects the positive progress that we’ve made in making the Neste Oil name known around the world,” says Hanna Maula, Neste Oil’s Director, Corporate Communications.

“Neste Oil is well-known as a producer of premium-grade renewable diesel fuel and as a pioneer in responsible operations in the industry. Our recent start-up of the world’s largest renewable diesel plant in Singapore probably helped secure our excellent ranking this year, as did the growing potential of our unique NExBTL technology, which is capable of producing premium-quality renewable diesel and biojet from a wide range of renewable inputs.”

Of the 50 companies included in the Biofuels Digest list, 37 are from the US and 13 from elsewhere. Inclusion in the list was jointly decided by a 75-person international panel and the readers of Biofuels Digest and Renewable Chemicals Digest. Particular priority was given to innovation and companies’ contribution to developing bioenergy production in selecting the top 50 from a total of over 1,000 candidates.
