New port cranes leave China for Savannah

Four new super post-Panamax cranes – the largest container cranes in the world – are on their way from China to Container Berths 8 and 9 at Georgia Ports Authority’s Garden City Terminal. Too large to fit through the Panama Canal, the cranes – which left the port of Nantong in China on Christmas Eve – will travel around the Cape of Good Hope at the Southern tip of Africa, with an expected arrival in Savannah on Feb. 10. The cranes, ordered from Konescranes VLC, were designed in Finland and fabricated in China.
