Fire damages port conveyor belt

More than 30 firefighters were called to tackle a fire on a conveyor belt at the Port of Tyne. The fire broke out on a 720ft (200m) section of the belt, which was being used to feed rape seed on to a loading ship on the south side of the river. The flames were extinguished on Monday afternoon and crews remained at the scene to damp down the area. No damage was caused to the ship but the conveyor belt was severely burned by the fire.
