Austal Completes Queensland Police Vessels

Austal has successfully handed over the last of three 22 metre aluminium catamarans for operation in the Australian state of Queensland. Completion of the three-vessel fleet for the Queensland Police Service was achieved in just over 12 months from initial order and adds to Austal’s track record in delivering multi-vessel orders on-time and on-budget.

Built at Austal’s Tasmanian shipyard – which specialises in small to medium-sized vessels – the police boats will be stationed at Yeppoon, Brisbane and Cairns, and are designed to patrol remote, tropical locations for extended periods. State Water Police Co-ordinator, Inspector Alan Magarry, said the Queensland Police Service had been impressed by the build quality of the vessels, as well as the speed of delivery.

“Working with Austal Tasmania from the initial consultation phase, through to the construction, systems commissioning, dock trials, sea trials, delivery and final acceptance was outstanding,” Inspector Magarry said.
