Daewoo-Samsung in Qatar deal

South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering, and Samsung Heavy Industries, said yesterday they had won orders to build liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers for Qatar.
Daewoo said it had won a new order worth $690 million from the Qatar Gas Transport Company to build three LNG carriers. Daewoo has secured orders worth $5.91 billion or 28 vessels, including 12 LNG carriers, so far this year. The company is targeting $10bn in new orders this year. Samsung Heavy Industries also said it had won a new order worth 1.03 trillion won ($1.09bn) from the Qatar Gas Transport Company to build four LNG carriers.
