Qatar Navigation readies $71.7mn capital spending

Qatar Navigation (QNNS), one of the leading shipping agents in the Middle East, is undertaking a massive $71.7mn (QR261mn) capital expenditure for building three container carrying vessels as part of efforts to strengthen its market share.
At its board meeting held yesterday, QNNS approved the construction of the vessels, each having a capacity of 1,100 TEUs (20-foot equivalent units) and decided to select South Korea-based Dae Sun Shipbuilding and Engineering Company.
The company, which recently hiked its capital base to QR468mn, in a statement, said it also has an option to build a fourth vessel with the same capacity at a cost of $23.9mn (QR87mn).
