January 17, 2008

Second incident in two months closes river to commercial traffic.

A 965-foot container ship ran aground in the shipping channel approximately two miles east of Tybee Island on Wednesday, closing the Savannah River for about four hours.

The Ever Radiant, a Panamanian-flagged vessel leased to Evergreen Marine, reportedly lost propulsion while leaving the port of Savannah in the Bloody Point Range at 11 a.m.
