Unsecured hatch cover on Langeland

The Swedish Coast Guard has again filmed the Norwegian coaster Langeland, lying at a depth of about 100 metres in the Koster Fjord on the Swedish west coast. The film footage shows that hatch cover sections are missing and that the hatch cover was not entirely secured. In addition, the stone cargo has fallen out and the hold is empty. This indicates that Langeland heeled over and the hatch cover was fully or partly opened giving access to large quantities of water in a short period of time. The vessel then rapidly lost its buoyancy, which could explain why no one in the crew managed to reach safety.
