Clipper paid ransom for CEC Future

Clipper Group paid a ransom of USD 1.7 million (DKK 8.7 million) to Somalian pirates to secure the release of the hijacked freighter CEC Future in January. This was revealed in a TV documentary broadcast on national Danish television yesterday. The documentary showed footage from the office as well as from the captured vessel, which was hijacked in the Gulf of Aden on November 7, 2008. Shortly afterwards, negotiations monitored by Clipper’s emergency team in Copenhagen started.
