Vessel Supply “Mis-match” Hurting Container Shipping

As bigger container vessels enter into service, the container shipping industry is beginning to feel the pinch as demand has not picked up as much of late, says Winston W.F. Loo, managing director of Barwil Unitor Ships Service Malaysia.

Barwil is part of the Wilhelmsen Maritime Services Company, the single largest agency house in Malaysia with 13 offices covering all ports in the country.

“Volume was satisfying during the last six months but rates have been a major issue as new and bigger vessels started coming into the industry during the period,” said Loo.
