Huisman Cuts Steel for COOEC’s Vertical Lay System

Dutch firm Huisman has marked the start of construction of the new pipelay system for COOEC, a subsidiary of CNOOC, by holding a steel cutting ceremony at its facility in China.

It is a 325mt vertical lay system (VLS) for flexible pipe, and it will be the first ever operated and owned by a Chinese company.

“The 325mt VLS is the first step to pipe flex-lay in deep sea, which is a significant milestone in realisation of the strategy of CNOOC Secondary Leap,” says Ding Donghua, representative of CNOOC.

The tower will be set up onboard the vessel Hai Yang Shi You 286 (HYSY286). For this vessel, Huisman also supplied a 400mt deep water mast crane.

The HYSY286 is an ST-263 multi purpose offshore construction vessel, developed by Skipsteknisk in cooperation with COOEC. It has an overall length of 140.75 meters, moulded breath of 29 meters and a depth of 12.8 meters, a working deck of about 1900 sq.m, accommodation for 150 person and is fitted with a helicopter deck for S92.
