IADC lauds Atwood Oceanic’s Competence Assurance Program

Atwood Oceanics, a Houston-based offshore drilling contractor, has been granted full accreditation of its Competence Assurance Program by the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC).

This accreditation follows a detailed audit by IADC of Atwood’s systems and processes for assessing employee skills and knowledge in key positions on offshore drilling rigs.

Brenda Kelly, IADC Senior Director – Program Development, commented, “I commend Atwood for the many noteworthy components of their Competence Program, most outstanding among them being the emphasis on correlating the program’s key performance indicators with the company’s safety performance.”

Rob Saltiel, Atwood President and CEO, added, “IADC accreditation for our Competence Assurance Program represents a major accomplishment for our company. This program is a key component of Atwood’s employee training and development initiatives, providing greater clarity for our employees on career paths and job requirements, while delivering improved safety and operational performance for our clients.”

In the final audit report, IADC noted that no non-conformities were identified in Atwood’s program.

Atwood Oceanics is an offshore drilling company engaged in the drilling and completion of exploration and development wells for the global oil and gas industry. The company currently owns 12 mobile offshore drilling units and is constructing three ultra-deepwater drillships. The company was founded in 1968 and is headquartered in Houston, Texas.
