INS Tarkash Delivered to Indian Navy

At the quay of Yantar Shipyard, on November 9th, all the workers and specialists of the Yard took part in the ceremony of handing over of Frigate INS Tarkash (Quiver) to the Indian Navy. The delivery protocol was signed on the deck of the Frigate by Mr. Ivan Goncharenko, the First Deputy General Director of JSC «Rosoboronexport» and Antony George, Captain of the Frigate.

After that the Russian flag under which INS Tarkash passed sea trials in the Baltic sea, was lowered and the Indian flag was hoisted. Under this flag INS Tarkash will depart very soon from Kaliningrad to Mumbai for active service.

Frigate INS Tarkash had been laid out at the building ways of JSC Yantar Shipyard on November 27th 2007. It’s the second ship of the next three frigate series project 11356, being under construction according to the Contract, concluded in 2005. The first frigate , INS Teg (Sabre), had been delivered on April 27th 2012. The third ship, INS Trikand (Bow), at the present time is passing mooring trials and is scheduled to be delivered to the Indian Navy in June 2013.

Project 11356 was elaborated by JSC «Severnoye Design Bureau». The first three ships of this project were constructed at Baltyiski Zavod (Saint-Petersburg). Frigates project 11356, being under construction at Shipyard «Yantar», differ from the first three ships series, as they are equipped with supersonic missile system BrahMos jointly elaborated by Russia and India.
