Indonesia: Pertamina Gets Another Fuel-Carrying Ship

Pertamina's New Addition to Fleet

PT Pertamina (Persero) has added another fuel-carrying ship to its armada, marked with the handover of the Mauhau oil product tanker ship, with capacity of 3.500 Long Ton Deadweight (LTDW). The ship was built by national shipyard PT Daya Radar Utama, Jakarta.

The Mauhau ship is the 50th ship owned by Pertamina from the total of 185 ships operated to ensure the security of national energy supply. Mauhau ship will start operating by the first weekend of January 2013 to distribute fuel (BBM) across Indonesia.

The contract for construction of Mauhau ship was signed on 26 August 2010 and gone through commissioning stage or the sea trial stage at the beginning of December 2012. The ship was built by PT Daya Radar Utama, one of national shipyards, at the investment of around US$11.8 million.

The investment for new ship construction in domestic shipyards has proven that Pertamina has been contributing in real ways in developing and advancing national maritime industry. In the middle of industrial stagnant in the past few years, Pertamina still put confidence on national shipyards. This step is also a compliance of Pertamina to cabotage principle with the spirit of empowering national maritime business regarding ship ownership, flag, and seafarers,” said Vice President Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Ali Mundakir.

The addition of Pertamina-owned ship is the breakthrough believed to increase fuel transportation cost efficiency, which in the end will provide positive contribution to the company’s performance. Transportation cost efficiency will further increase Pertamina’s competitive edge in facing more open oil and gas downstream business.

By the end of 2013, Pertamina plans to own 61 ships with the status of ownership. As many as 29 ships, or 47% of them, are produced by national shipyards; 24 of them have been in operation and remaining five are still in construction stage.

Through long term plan to strengthen ownership armada, Pertamina is committed to prioritize collaboration and synergy with national partners as the ship builders needed by the Company,Ali said.
