Injured Crewmember Hoisted from Bulker off Oregon

A crewmember from the 46,896 dwt wood chips carrier Daio Papyrus has been medically evacuated after he reportedly suffered a severe laceration to his head, according to the United States Coast Guard (USCG).
The seafarer, who sustained the injuries in the evening hours of March 18, was medevaced some 10 miles west of Coos Bay, Oregon.
Due to the sea state and the seafarer’s condition it was determined that the hoist would be performed at first light on Sunday morning.
A Coast Guard Sector North Bend MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew hoisted the injured crewmember from the Panama-flagged vessel and transported him to Sector North Bend where he was placed in the care of local Emergency Medical Services and taken to the Bay Area Hospital.
At the time of the incident the 1995-built vessel was on its way from Japan’s port of Mishima to Tokyo, according to AIS data provided by MarineTraffic.
