ITF, Oil & Gas UK Organize Technology Showcase 2014

ITF, the organisation driving oil and gas technology development in the UK, is joining forces with Oil & Gas UK to hold its Technology Showcase 2014 with a focus on the innovations needed to maximise UK reserves.

The event, which comprises both a conference and an exhibition, enables technology innovators to network with key figures in the industry and discuss the technology challenges the industry faces in unlocking the remaining reserves on the UK continental shelf (UKCS).

A host of senior representatives from operators and major service companies including BP, Chevron, CNR International, GE Oil & Gas, Shell UK, Statoil, Total E&P UK Limited and TAQA will give their views on pressing industry issues in a series of presentations to be delivered at the conference on 5th March at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre.

The event, which is supported by the Department of Energy and Climate Change and the UK Technology Strategy Board, will also include an exhibition where technology developers and researchers can showcase ground-breaking technologies and research and development capabilities to key individuals from operating companies and strategic industry groups.

The conference programme includes four key focus areas:

· Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR)

· Digital Monitoring for Production Efficiency and Integrity

· Increased Oil Recovery (IOR)

· Advanced Materials and Corrosion.

Dr Patrick O’Brien, CEO of ITF said: “Technology has always played and will continue to play a crucial role in our industry, and will no doubt contribute to securing remaining North Sea reserves. If industry is to access close to the 24 billion barrels that are estimated to be viable, greater collaboration is needed to drive forward game-changing solutions.”

“A much bigger focus is needed on enhanced oil recovery in mature basins, particularly as the majority of fields that have been decommissioned have recovery rates of less than 50%. The showcase will be of great interest to operators and technology developers alike. Partnering with Oil & Gas UK demonstrates our commitment to bringing forward a new UK technology strategy.”

The conference will be chaired by Oonagh Werngren, Operations Director of Oil & Gas UK. She said: “Over the past 50 years, the oil and gas industry has demonstrated an impressive capability for innovation and many new technologies pioneered on the UKCS have been exported globally. Future discoveries and average field sizes will be more technically and commercially challenging so it is vital to encourage and sustain investment in technology to ensure the longevity of UKCS production over the coming decades.”
